BOARD MEET & GREET

Drug Free Marion County would like to introduce our newest board member:

Daniel Castillo

Why did you decide to join the board of Drug Free Marion County?

What drug- and alcohol-related issues are of particular concern to you?

What has been the most rewarding experience for you as a member of the board?

What are some of your interests/hobbies when you're not working or volunteering?

I've had the opportunity to attend other DFMC sponsored events over the past few years and found the participants very engaged and supportive of the mission to address substance abuse in our community.  In my past professional life I've supervised an offender population, and served as an educator instructing public safety courses to college undergraduates.  I believe Board participation is another avenue to engage on critical issues I've experienced and studied.

The issue of most concern to me is the casual attitude towards the legalization of marijuana that is sweeping our country.  Our society experienced a similar change many years ago following the end of prohibition.  Now marijuana use seems poised to enter the mainstream and I believe further discussion of marijuana as a gateway to experimentation with other more serious substances must continue.

I am brand new to the board and looking forward to significant positive interaction and a chance to engage with those that benefit from our initiatives.

In my spare time I enjoy reading about foreign policy issues, Australian rules football, and tinkering around on my 1973 FJ40 Toyota Landcruiser.
