Drug Free Marion County is comprised of concerned citizens dedicated to preventing and reducing the negative consequences from the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs in Marion County. We are business professionals, law enforcement officials, parents, health care providers, educators, neighborhood leaders and others, who, like you, care about the health and safety of our community.

Local Report on Underage and Binge Drinking       (03/03/2010)

The just-released second edition of Drug Free Marion County's Local Report on Underage and Binge Drinking shows that alcohol-consumption patterns among Marion County youth in sixth, eighth and tenth grades continue to outpace regional and state averages. Marijuana use among Marion County students also is especially pronounced.

Annual Award Nominations Now Accepted       (02/23/2010)

Drug Free Marion County is now accepting nominations for its Annual Awards program, which recognizes individuals with outstanding commitments to and achievements in addressing challenges related to alcohol, tobacco or drug use.

Nominations can be submitted until 5 p.m. on Friday, March 12 to Lynn Allen, lallen@drugfreemc.org.

Alcohol License Requests Increase Dramatically in Marion County and Indiana
 

 The Walgreens CGreen Bottlesorporation has changed its corporate policy and is now choosing to sell alcohol in its stores. As a result, Indiana has been inundated with license requests for Walgreen stores. Statewide, 177 license requests have been filed; 29 in Marion County. The type of permit requested in Marion County would allow for the sale of beer, wine and hard liquor. Marion County already has 169 package liquor stores; 202 beer and wine dealer permits for convenience, drug, and grocery stores; and 105 liquor dealer permits for pharmacies, either in stand-alone drug stores or as part of a grocery store.
